Garden fencing installation and replacement
Benchmark Paving installs and replaces garden fencing, with site visits from our Caterham base. We discuss privacy, appearance and the condition of the existing boundary before recommending the scope of work.
The panels are only one part of the fence. Posts, supports, ground conditions, height and changes in level all affect the finished result. Arrange a free visit to compare suitable options and receive a quotation for your garden.

Privacy and appearance
Think about the views you want to screen and the finish that suits nearby paving, planting and buildings. Discuss panel style, height and the amount of light you want to retain.
Posts and supports
Existing posts may be damaged even where panels appear reusable. We assess the supports and discuss which parts of the fence need replacing as part of the quotation.
Replacement or a new run
A few damaged sections and a complete new boundary involve different work. Tell us the approximate length, current materials and any recurring movement or storm damage.
Slopes and connections
The fence needs to work with changing ground levels, paths and adjoining boundaries. Consider the position of entrances and any access that must remain available.
Assess the boundary before installation
Confirm the intended boundary line and ownership before work is agreed. A new fence should not be used to resolve an uncertain boundary without the relevant agreement. Tell us about shared access, nearby trees, walls and known buried services.
Discuss how old fencing will be removed, access for materials and how the new fence will meet the ground. Ask for the proposed panels, posts, fixings and disposal arrangements to be included in the quotation.
Fencing can be coordinated with garden landscaping or garden walls and steps so the boundaries and finished levels work together.
What affects the cost of a new fence?
Length, height, panel style, posts, ground conditions and access all affect the price. Removing old foundations or working around existing features can add preparation that is not reflected in a panel-only price.
Share the approximate length, photographs and any access restrictions when you enquire. Compare quotations for the complete installation, including the supports, fixings and removal work.
From site visit to completed work
1. Survey the boundary
We look at the existing fence, intended line, ground levels and access, then discuss the appearance and privacy you want.
2. Agree and install
Confirm the fence specification, preparation and removal work. Install the agreed supports and fencing to suit the site.
3. Finish and care
Check the completed boundary and discuss care for the chosen material, including treatments and checks recommended by its supplier.
Frequently asked questions
Can you replace panels without replacing every post?
It may be possible where the existing posts and supports are suitable. Their condition, spacing and compatibility with the replacement panels need checking first.
Which fencing materials can I choose?
Tell us the appearance and maintenance level you prefer. We will discuss the available styles and materials for your project and confirm the specification in the quotation.
Do I need permission for a new fence?
Height, position and property restrictions can affect what is allowed. Check the Planning Portal guidance for fences and garden walls and confirm any property-specific requirements with your local planning authority before work starts.
What maintenance will the fence need?
Care depends on the material and finish. Follow the supplier’s advice on treatment and cleaning, and check posts, fixings and panels periodically for damage or movement.
Can you install fencing as part of a garden project?
Yes. We can discuss fencing alongside paving, turfing and other garden improvements. Agree the finished levels and order of work so the new features meet properly.
