Resin bound driveway installation
Resin-bound surfacing combines stone aggregate and resin for a smooth, textured driveway finish. Benchmark Paving installs resin-bound driveways from our Caterham base, visiting your property to discuss colour, edging, use and the condition of the existing ground.
A successful installation starts with a suitable supporting base and a clear drainage plan. We assess those details before recommending new construction or an overlay, so the finish is considered as part of the whole driveway.
Choosing a resin-bound driveway
Colour and aggregate
Different aggregate blends create lighter, darker or warmer finishes. Compare samples against the house, path and garden edging, and discuss the specification suitable for vehicle use.
Borders and shape
Contrasting edging can define the drive and connect it to paths or planted areas. Curves, thresholds, steps and covers need to be included in the layout before surfacing begins.
Base condition
An existing surface needs assessment for movement, cracks, levels and suitability. Resin does not remedy an unstable base. Some projects need new groundwork rather than a surface overlay.
Drainage design
Resin-bound surfacing can allow water through, but the supporting layers and drainage route must also be suitable. A permeable finish over an impermeable base does not make the complete driveway permeable.
Resin-bound and resin-bonded are different systems
With resin-bound surfacing, aggregate and resin are mixed before laying. In a resin-bonded system, aggregate is scattered onto resin applied to the base. The appearance and drainage characteristics differ, so quotations should state which system is included.
Our service here is resin-bound driveway installation. At the site visit, discuss the base, intended vehicle use, edges and how rainwater will be managed. Any product-specific performance or guarantee should be confirmed for the system in the quotation.

What affects the price of a resin driveway?
The area, aggregate choice, shape, edging and access all influence the quote. Preparing a new base is different work from surfacing a suitable existing one, so compare the full construction and drainage specification.

From site visit to finished paving
1. Assess and specify
We discuss the finish and inspect the existing surface, levels, access and drainage. The proposed work should make the base and edging requirements clear.
2. Prepare and install
Preparation and any drainage or edge work come before the resin-bound surface. Installation conditions and the chosen system’s requirements affect scheduling.
3. Allow curing and care
Agree when the surface can be walked and driven on. Sweep debris away and follow the installed system’s cleaning and maintenance advice; address damage promptly.
Frequently asked questions
Can resin be laid over my existing driveway?
Sometimes, but only after assessing the base, stability, condition, levels and drainage. An overlay should not be used to hide movement or structural problems. We will discuss whether preparation, repairs or a new base are needed.
Is a resin-bound driveway maintenance-free?
No. Leaves, dirt and other debris still need clearing, and cleaning methods must suit the installed system. Regular care helps maintain appearance and drainage performance.
Is resin-bound surfacing always permeable?
The surface can be porous, but effective drainage depends on the complete build-up and where the water can go. The base and supporting layers must be considered, not just the resin finish.
When can I park on the new driveway?
The waiting time depends on the resin system, weather and installation conditions. Follow the specific handover advice for your driveway rather than a general promise of next-day use.
Will resin-bound surfacing avoid planning permission?
Do not assume the material alone removes the need for permission. Check the property, location and proposed drainage arrangement against the current front-garden paving guidance and any local restrictions before work starts.
